I think creating is always what comes to mind first for me when considering humanity. I am fascinated by how aware humans are of the physics around them and their dedication to using these given properties to create new objects and tools. This project is a statement on man’s need to create and obscure the environment that we are naturally surrounded by.
“Impact/Imprint” has been an experiment of transferring images of raw and living moments onto sheets of lead. From there, I place tools and objects beneath while I hammer out various shapes and indents. In simplest terms, it is a study on “impact and imprint”, and to me that feels hyper human as I, a human, am taking one man-made invention and creating a new variation of its shape and form to inspect and immortalize. It is also a reflection on the contradiction of the permanence of one thing versus the impermanence of another.
The idea of being “hyper human” to me feels like not only an evolution but a reaction to the laws of nature that bind us. For example “Every action must have an equal and opposite reaction”. It makes me think of the mechanics, and the tools, and the science that we invent, experience, and ultimately harness to create motion and evolution that proves and solidifies our existence.
