Naomi Simone is a photographer based in New York City, currently completing

her BFA in Photography and Related Media at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her work has

been exhibited internationally and reflects a sustained engagement with process, place, and

material experimentation.

Her ongoing project Impact/Imprint has been exhibited at the Boomer Gallery in London,

the Shrishti Institute of Art in Bengaluru, Gallery Conceal Shibuya in Tokyo, and the Fashion

Institute of Technology in New York. The series was recently published in Eroding Forms, a

curated book by the collective Alternative Processes, which highlights a variety of artists whose

work speaks on impermanence and the decomposition of materials.

Her earlier series All of God’s Creatures was shown at the Museum at the Fashion

Institute of Technology and later included in an exhibit at an Adidas New York Fashion Week

event. The project was also recognized by LensCulture for its distinct visual language.

Additional exhibition credits include Black Box Gallery in Portland, Oregon, and ASmith

Gallery in Austin, Texas.

In 2025, Schulz completed a residency at AqTushetii in the remote Caucasus Mountains

of Georgia. There, she deepened her exploration of traditional photographic methods while also

working with regional craft practices, including weaving and raw clay techniques, integrating

them into a broader visual approach that continues to inform her work.

My practice is grounded in process, material, and physical labor, working primarily with large format photography and alternative processes to emphasize slowness, repetition, and tactility. Experiences across remote landscapes, from the Caucasus Mountains to the highlands of East and Southern Africa, and most recently, across American landscapes, has shaped my engagement with place. My work explores the tension between permanence and impermanence, considering the photograph as something material and residual.
